RAF Typhoon FGR4s have operated alongside French aircraft in a coordinated attack targeting an underground arms cache in Syrian territory used by the IS group, as stated by the UK Ministry of Defence.
The location, pinpointed through surveillance, was assessed as housing weapons and explosive materials, the release indicated, and was situated in hills just above the ancient city of Palmyra in Syria's central region.
"The RAF jets used laser-guided Paveway IV weapons to strike a several entry passages down to the depot... early reports are that the objective was successfully hit," the MoD said.
There was no sign of any civilian impact in the strike late on Saturday and all the aircraft returned safely, the ministry further stated.
The British jets were assisted by a Voyager tanker plane.
The Islamic State group - also known as Daesh - enforced militant control over large swathes of Iraq and Syria until 2019.
"This operation demonstrates our UK leadership, and determination to stand shoulder to shoulder with allied nations, to stamp out any resurgence of Daesh and their harmful and extremist ideologies in the Middle East," Britain's Defence Chief John Healey remarked.
British military aircraft have conducted overwatch operations over Syria to "forestall any efforts to regroup" of IS subsequent to its military defeat at the battle of Baghuz in 2019, the MoD reported.
"I extend gratitude to every member of our armed forces who took part in this mission for their expertise and their bravery," Healey commented. "They were among thousands of British troops on duty over the holidays. This mission, to remove militants who threaten our security, demonstrates how UK forces are prepared to act, throughout the year, ensuring Britain's security at home and strong abroad."
In December, the American forces executed what it described as a "massive strike" against IS targets in the country, subsequent to an assault killed two US troops and a local interpreter in Palmyra.
The UN says IS still has roughly 5-7 thousand militants in Syria and Iraq.
